That come when kids don't have sustainable footwear
Over 2 billion people suffer from soil-transmitted diseases and parasites. They live in areas that do not have adequate sanitation. They struggle with proper hygiene. They do not have the right clothing, resources, or healthcare. And being sick = struggling. Kids miss school, can’t help their families, suffer with pain. Many of these diseases and parasites get into the body because people don’t have shoes.
There are over 300 million children who do not have shoes. And countless more with shoes that do not fit. Sometimes they receive donations of shoes, but these are kids. Their feet grow. And they outgrow donated shoes within a year. Right back where they started.
A shoe that grows five sizes and lasts for years. With this shoe, a kid can always have a pair of shoes that fit. They can stay healthy and happy – ready to take the next steps to their future.
The Shoe That Grows is a patented design of an innovative shoe that adjusts and expands. It was developed with the help of multiple shoe design firms inspired by feedback from those who need them. The shoe comes in three sizes: youth small, youth large, and adult.
Adult = Grows 5+ sizes
Generally fits adults (or from about a US women's size 7/men’s 6 to men’s 12, EUR 38-45)
The Shoe is made with the highest quality materials - compressed rubber (similar to that of a car tire), anti-bacterial synthetic, and high grade, tactical Velcro. No mechanical parts of gears to break. Easy to clean (for toe-tally clean feet). Easy to use (and it grows with the toes).”
Our initial goal has been to provide as many shoes as possible to kids in need. Therefore, production started in China where we have been able to get a high quality shoe at an affordable price. We have hired a US based firm to oversee production and we have also visited the factory ourselves to ensure that we understand the process and the working conditions.
We aim to produce as many shoes as we can in areas that not only need the shoes, but need jobs as well! We’re currently working toward a long term production relationship in Ethiopia and also in the beginning stages of potential production in Haiti. Expanding to additional countries will always be a goal.
One of the best parts of The Shoe That Grows is how easy it is to transport. It compresses into itself so that you can fit 50 pairs of the small size in a regular suitcase that weighs under 50 pounds. You can take 50 pairs of shoes in a suitcase on a plane. Incredible.
